We do not offer in-house financing at Safe Sheds. We suggest you speak with your local credit union or bank to apply for a loan. All that’s required to order a Safe Shed shelter is a 10% deposit, and the balance isn’t due until the shelter is delivered.

Unlike a freight train (or house or semi truck), a Safe Shed storm shelter is specifically designed to withstand 250 mph winds. The small surface area of the shelter, the fact that wind cannot get underneath the shelter, and the pressure resistant engineering ensure that a Safe Shed above ground shelter won’t be tipped, tossed, or thrown by a tornado. And all four corners are anchored, so heavy debris striking the shelter won’t cause it to shift or slide either.

No. Even though an 8’ x 10’ Safe Shed shelter weighs in around 12 tons, our exclusive delivery equipment allows us to set your shelter without the use of a crane. Please visit the delivery page of this website for more details, including a short video of a delivery.

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) grants are authorized by the U.S. Congress and distributed annually to states that qualify for hazard mitigation assistance. To find out if you are able to apply for a FEMA grant, please contact your county or state Emergency Management Agency (EMA). When and where FEMA grants are available changes year-to-year, state-to-state, and county-to-county, so we don’t always know what’s available.

Yes. The price of the shelter includes anchors and installation. The style of anchor used is determined by the surface on which the shelter is installed. Our standard anchor is a 4’ in-ground screw anchor, but shelters being installed on concrete, asphalt, or rocky ground will be anchored with a different anchor style.

If you’re within driving distance of our manufacturing facility in southern Illinois, you’re welcome to schedule an appointment for a visit. Otherwise we’re sometimes able to find a Safe Shed owner closer to you who you can speak to and, with their permission, arrange a visit to see theirs.

Technically, yes. The anchors can be cut, and the shelter could be lifted with a crane, placed on a semi flatbed trailer, and then unloaded with a crane at the new site. We do not offer relocation services with our equipment.

FEMA Pub. 320 (standards for residential storm shelters) recommends that outside storm shelters be located about 150 feet from your home’s door. We suggest facing the door away from the direction of your strongest storms and away from hazards like propane tanks and large power lines. You also need to make sure there are no underground utilities where the shelter will be placed.

To order your shelter, we require only that you sign a Purchase Agreement and place a 10% non-refundable deposit. At the time of your order you can select the exterior wall and roof colors and your load pattern for delivery. When you shelter enters production, you’ll receive an e-mail letting you know delivery is getting close. The balance of your total purchase price will be due when your shelter is delivered.
